NEWPORT NEWS - Ronald Phillip Day, 74, passed away on March 18, 2014 at Mary Immaculate Hospital surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in JenkinJones, WV and had resided on the Peninsula since 1972. He retired from the NNSY in X-33 Department after 28 years of dedicated service. He was a Union representative for Union Eligible employees and was on the Educational Committee for Bayport Credit Union. He was a member of Olivet Christian Church. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Bessie Day; his sister, Agnes Barnett; and his brothers, Glen Ray, Clayton and Harold Day. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol Day; his daughter, Rhonda Jean Sooth and her husband, Mike, of Newport News; his brother, George E. Day and his wife, Loretta, of Yorktown; his sisters, Jean Robeson and her husband, Jim, of Springfield, MO and Bonnie Whitley and her husband, Reese, of Bedford, VA; seven grandchildren, Mandi, Angel, Ronnie, and Noah Wolf, and Kyla, Ashley, and Courtney Sooth; three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Riley, and Dylan; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Mary Immaculate Hospital for all their kindness and especially Dr. Webb. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 11:00am-12Noon. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12Noon at the Weymouth Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. David Willis of Olivet Christian Church. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Olivet Christian Church, 14425 Old Courthouse Way, Newport News, VA 23608. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
