John William Simpson Sr. Obituary
YORKTOWN, VIRGINIA - John William Simpson, Sr., 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Mr. Simpson was born in St. Albans, West Virginia and a native of Covington, VA, and graduated from Bowling Springs High School. He resided in the Tabb area of Yorktown for the last 60 years, and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He loved and served his church family for over 50 years, and held many positions in the church. John was a proud US Army veteran and served in the Korean War. He graduated from the NASA Apprentice School and retired as an Engineering Technician in 1984 after 30 years of service. He continued to work for Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. He was a ham radio enthusiast, and received numerous awards, achievements and recognition from NASA, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. He was the co-author on numerous patents, including what was known as the Simpson probe. He worked until January 10, 2014 at the ripe old age of 82. John was a devoted and faithful husband and father, involved grandfather, cherished friend, and valued co-worker. He was preceded in death by a son Timothy; a daughter Angela; his parents Maggie Lee Simpson and Lee Edward Simpson; and brothers Franklin and Jack. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Lois June Simpson; a daughter, Deborah June Jutras and her husband Kenny; a son, John William Simpson, Jr. and his wife Rhonda; a brother, Dan Simpson and a sister Rosemary Curry; 5 grandchildren, Chad, Karissa, Tyler, Daniel and Casey; and 2 great grandsons, Chase and Sawyer. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. John Mattern and his staff at Virginia Oncology and to all of the nurses and staff on the oncology ward at Riverside Hospital who provided so graciously to his care, making his last days as gentle and painless as possible. Cancer is so limited it Cannot cripple love, it cannot shatter hope, it cannot corrode faith, it cannot eat away peace, it cannot destroy confidence, it cannot kill friendship, it cannot shut out memories, it cannot silence courage, it cannot reduce eternal life, it cannot quench the Spirit, it cannot lessen the Power of Resurrection. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown. A Celebration of John's Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 29, 2014 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Echols officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. A reception with light refreshments will be served in the church fellowship hall following the graveside service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made in honor and memory of John to the Grace Bible Camp, 111 Bible Camp Lane, Goshen, VA, 24439. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
