Obituary Condolences

NEWPORT NEWS - H. Manning Woodward, Jr., 86, died unexpectedly at home Friday, March 28, 2014. Born in Louisa, he had lived on the Peninsula since 1999 where he was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hampton. After service in the Navy during World War II, he attended the University of Richmond and then graduated from Echols College of Mortuary Science. Manning owned and operated Woodward Funeral Home and Woodward Insurance Agency in Louisa until he retired in 1996. He was twice the president of Louisa Rotary Club which recognized him as a Paul Harris Fellow, and after moving to Hampton, he was a member of the Hampton Rotary Club. Preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Jessee Woodward and his sisters, Jacqueline Woodward Marshall and Jean Woodward Duke, Mr. Woodward is survived by his wife, Eleanor Weston Woodward; his children and their spouses, Jane Woodward Meyer and her husband, Rick of Louisa, H. Manning Woodward, III and his wife, Debbie of Louisa, Eleanor Weston Brown and her husband, Bill of Hampton, Rosemary Weston Kulp and her husband, Chris of Richmond and William A. Weston, III and his wife, Lisa of Leonardtown, MD; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Monday at First United Methodist Church, downtown Hampton with Rev. Dr. Michael Lee Nelson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa County on Tuesday with Rev. David Palmer of Louisa United Methodist Church officiating. R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 723 3191.
