Hazel Fultz Massengill Gard Obituary
HAMPTON - Hazel Fultz Massengill Hartley Gard, 84, widow of Gillis Massengill and Herbert Gard, passed away Saturday April 5, 2014. Born in Tazewell, TN, she has been a resident of Hampton since 1954, where she retired from Avon Fashions in Newport News. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Meddia and Henry Fultz; son, Rickie Alvin Massengill; brothers, Charlie Fultz, Harvey Fultz; Richard Fultz and Evan Fultz; and sisters, Bertha Whitaker and Priscilla Smallwood. She is survived by her sisters and their spouses, Minnie and Jesse Bradford and Bernice and Dave Allen; brothers and their spouses, Floyd and Janice Fultz and Tommy Fultz; Also survived by her daughter, Carol Massengill Bone Mabe and her husband Kenny; sons and their spouses, Phillip Ray and Joyce Massengill, Jerry David and Vanessa Massengill, John Lee and Syndi Massengill and Terry Neil Hartley, Jr; eighteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday April 13 from 2-4:00 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted Monday April 14 at 1:30 PM in the funeral home chapel by Rev. Cox. Interment will follow in the Phoebus Section of the Hampton National Cemetery. Arrangements are by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave. in downtown Hampton, Virginia 23669 757-723-3191.
