LUBBOCK, TX - Frank Critz Thames, Sr., a native of West Point, MS, and resident of Hampton, VA from 1976 until 2010, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in Lubbock, TX. A graduate of Murrah High School in Jackson, MS, he earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Aeronautical Engineering from Mississippi State University. He spent his entire career in the aeronautics industry. After moving to Hampton, he spent the rest of his career working for NASA at the Langley Research Center. He retired in 2010 and moved to Lubbock, TX. He is the son of the late Howard and Elizabeth (Bay) Thames of West Point, MS. He is preceded in death by his wife, Natalie Butler Thames of Jackson, MS. Mr. Thames is survived by his four children: Lisa Berg of Leesburg, VA, her husband Daris Berg and their two children Caroline Berg and Annie Berg; Frank Thames, Jr. of Lubbock, TX, and his wife Kim Thames; Carl Thames of Hewitt, TX, and his wife Liz Mitchell, and their daughter Natalie Thames; and Janie Thames, of McGaheysville, VA. He is also survived by his brother, Howard Thames, of Houston, TX. The family will receive visitors Sunday, April 27, from 4 to 6 PM, at the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, located at 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM the following day, Monday, April 28, at the Parklawn Memorial Park, located at 2551 N. Armistead in Hampton, VA.
