Obituary Condolences

NEWPORT NEWS - Ashton Dudley Curtis, 83, passed away April 20, 2014 at his home. A native of Denbigh, (Warwick County), Va., he attended local schools until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served until Feb. 1957 working as a ship fitter and a deep sea diver. He then worked with Brunk Heating and A/C Mechanical and retired from Cheatham Annex where he worked as a Refrigeration Mechanic. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Elmer Curtis, Sr. and Eva Holloway Curtis; brothers, J. Elmer, Jr. and Russell Laine Curtis; his first wife, Helen King Curtis; and his second wife, Shirley Pierce Curtis. He is survived by his two sons, Elmer Dudley Curtis, Arthur Holloway Curtis; step daughter, Sylvia Barton, all of Newport News, Va.; and Bonita Louise Ultes (Eric), Sun City, Ca.; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, five nephews and two nieces. He is also survived by one brother, Charlie W. Curtis (Barbara), Williamsburg, Va.; and many cousins. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 1, at 1:00 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
