NEWPORT NEWS - Betty Lois Taylor, 88, a native of Wheatland, Wyoming and a peninsula resident since 1947, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014. Betty loved music and served as both pianist and organist during her life. She enjoyed traveling and bowling as well as fishing. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church and was active in the Joy Sunday school class. In addition, she was involved in the music ministry at Open Door Baptist Church where she loved sharing her talents as their pianist. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Marion "M.K.", two brothers, two sisters, and an infant daughter Sandra L. Taylor. Survivors include a son Stephen K. Taylor and his wife, Brenda, of Yorktown; three daughters, Susan L. Toffenetti, and her husband Paul, of Blacksburg, Terri T. Lorincz, and her husband David, of Williamsburg, and Cindy L. Monelly, and her husband Mick, of Newport News; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1 - 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor David Ryerse officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. After the committal service, friends are invited to join the family at a reception in the social hall of Temple Baptist Church.
