John C. Morris Obituary
NEWPORT NEWS - John C. "Clay" Morris, 94, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, surrounded by loving family and friends. Clay was a long time resident of Newport News and retired in 1985 from Newport News Shipbuilding. Clay was preceded in death by his mother, Mae W. Boyd; father, CM Morris; and a son, Robert M. Morris. Clay was a long time member of Temple Baptist Church where he served on various committees, Sunday School teacher and as a valued member of the church community. He is survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Lucille P. Morris; a son, Roy B. Morris (Caroline) of Smithfield; five grandchildren, Leigh Kight (Lee) of Zebulon, GA, Katharine Owens (Brian) of Smithfield, Jonathan Morris (Angie) of Yorktown, Elizabeth Theologus (Basil) of Charleston, SC, and Andrew Morris of Griffin, GA; five great-grandchildren, Gavin, Sabrina, Faith, Christopher, and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews. A noon graveside service will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Peninsula Memorial Park, (please use Nettles Drive entrance.) with the Rev. Wes Taylor officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Temple Baptist Church, 235 Harpersville Road, Newport News, VA 23601. The family would like to express heart-felt appreciation to the Heartland Hospice Team for their exceptional care, especially recognizing Cindy, Janice and Nancie. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
