YORKTOWN - Philip Michael O'Bey, Sr., 74, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014. A native of San Bernardino, CA, he had been a Peninsula resident since 1960. Mr. O'Bey was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired as an Industrial Engineer with Newport News Shipbuilding after 31 years of service. He was a longtime member of James River Rod and Gun Club and a member of Bethel Temple. He loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Johnson O'Bey; three children, Philip Michael O'Bey, Jr. and Joni O'Bey Hurley both of Yorktown, and Kevin L. O'Bey of Roanoke; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward L. O'Bey. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 PM Sunday, May 18, 2014 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, May 19, 2014 at the funeral home with Rev. Bryan Cartwright officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
