NEWPORT NEWS - Elaine Agnes Johnson Williams, 71, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, in Newport News. She was educated at St. Mary's County Public Schools at George Washington Carver. She worked as an Advocate for Social Services where she earned her degree in Child Development. She moved to Newport News where she married her husband of 32 years, James Williams. She enjoyed traveling with her "Special" group of ladies on different casino trips. She loved playing Bingo and spending quality time with her family. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church. Her famous saying to her family was "It may not be what you want, but it sure is what you need". Preceding her in death was her father, Joseph Frederick Johnson; her brother, John Samuel Somerville; her step-father, John W. Berry Sr.; a special niece, Nicole Johnson; and her brother-in-law, Ernest Toney Sr. Survivors include her husband of 32 years, James Williams; three sons, Darnell Conner, Rodney Conner and Darwin Conner; two step-sons, Jaques Williams of Tampa, Fla. and JaVan Williams of Houston, Tex.; four daughters, Darlene Conner, Pat Young, Bobbi Mitchell (Billy) and Johanne Conner; a step-daughter, Raquel Williams of Tampa, Fla.; her siblings, Delma Brown (Gilbert) and Linda Fraley of Newport News, Brenda Johnson (Charles) of Aberdeen, Md., Judith Toney, John Berry Jr. (Barbara) and Shawn Berry (Tereama) of Lexington Park, Md.; Debra Curtis (Wendell) and Karen Owens (Danny) of Oklahoma; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special family and friends. The family will receive friends and a memorial service will be held from 7 to 9 pm Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel.
