Charles C. Reid Obituary
HAMPTON - Charles C. Reid peacefully departed this life on May 28, 2014 to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Charles was born on September 16, 1929 in Keysville, VA to the late Jake Reid and the late Mary Wilson-Reid of North Carolina. Charles served his country honorably and proudly from 1952 to 1956 in the United States Army. Charles and his beloved wife, Arleitha Mae, married in Newport News, VA on September 5, 1956, and resided in Illinois nearly 50 years before returning to the Hampton area in 2012. He was employed as the Head Engineer at the Hubbard Woods School in Winnetka, IL and retired in 1991. Ephesians 6:11 - "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." (KJV) was one of Charles' favorite scriptures, and he shared the love of God through the scriptures to all who would listen. He was an Associate Minister of Stratford Christian Center Church of Chicago, IL, under the leadership of Bishop Odell Townsend. He was predeceased by his sisters, Macie Sloan (William) of Lenoir, North Carolina; Annabelle Michaux (Douglas) of San Antonio, Texas; and Charlotte Stovall (Jacob) of Riverside, California; his brothers, Coy Reid of New York and Alvin Reid (Goldie). He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife, Arleitha; his sisters, Hazel Colar (Lawrence) of Chicago, Illinois, Thelma Dula (James) of Lenoir, North Carolina; his brothers, Nathaniel Reid (Mary) of Bloomington, California, Ronald Reid (Wanda) of Altadena, California, Jake Reid of Lenoir, North Carolina; and two brothers-in-law, Albert and James Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 6, 2014, at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a wake from 6-7 p.m., on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at 68 S. Independence Drive, Hampton, Virginia 23669 by 10:00 a.m. on Friday for the procession to the funeral home. O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
