HAMPTON - Kathleen Keane Wood passed away on July 6, 2014. Born on April 21, 1923 in Newport News, Virginia, she was a lifelong resident of Newport News and Hampton. She was baptized at the First Christian Church in Newport News, and later attended of the First Methodist Church in Hilton. Kathleen graduated from Warwick High School (Morrison High at the time). She worked as a typist for a local tax attorney, and then in the secretarial pool at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, where she met her future husband Louis. They were married at Trinity Methodist Church on October 14, 1950. Kathleen was a member of Trinity for many years, where she sang in the church choir. Most recently she was a member of First Methodist in Hilton. After giving birth to a son in 1953, Kathleen became a full time homemaker. Her interests included gardening and sewing. She loved cats, and always had one around the house. When her son left home for college, Kathleen went back to work in the Warwick Yacht Club office until her retirement. Kathleen is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Maynard Louis Wood, Jr.; her son, Louis Randolph Wood; daughter-in-law, Ruth Montgomery Wood; and grandchildren, Allison Marguerite Wood and Michael Louis Wood. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 10, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert L. Haley officiating. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
