HAMPTON - Margaret Marie Lane Charity, the daughter of the late Lenward Lane Sr., and Odell Mitchell Lane, born on July 18, 1937 in Harrellsville, NC, transitioned to her heavenly home on August 5, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She graduated from Calvin Scott Brown High School in Winton, NC. She married George Charity on April 8, 1957 where they celebrated 54 wonderful years. Of this union, two children were born, Cheryl and George Vincent. She traveled the country as an Army spouse until they retired in Hampton, VA in January 1978. During the years as an Army spouse, she worked at different base exchanges and upon moving to VA, she worked as a food service worker with Macke Food Service. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Harrellsville, NC. She later moved her membership to Antioch Baptist Church in Hampton, and made Hampton their home. She became a gleaner and embraced the organization and the fellowship to the fullest. She was also a member of the Orcutt Senior Citizen Club in Newport News, and the national organization of the Red Hatters. She also enjoyed her walking group and cruising with her husband until his death. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Cheryl and son George Vincent (Laura his fiancée); four grandsons Matthew, Adam, Joshua and Jacob; brothers Jodie (Esther), Calvin (Angela) and Lenward, Jr. (Karin); other relatives and friends. A homegoing service will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 9 at Antioch Baptist Church, 1563 Old Buckroe Road, Hampton. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. Family and friends will assemble at the residence by noon to proceed to the church.
