NEWPORT NEWS - John Michael Doggett, 51, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014 in San Diego, California. He was a native of Mobile, Alabama and resident of Newport News for 7 years. John was a nuclear electrician with the U.S. Navy and retired as a Lt. Commander in January 2005 after 22 years of service. John earned a Masters in Engineering Management from George Washington University and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the VFW. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. John was preceded in death by his in-laws, Jack and Bettie Orange, and maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his former wife and best friend of 18 years, Melodie Doggett of Hampton; son, Bobby of Newport News; daughters, Kristy "Peaches" of Newport News, and Tiffine of Idaho; grandchildren, Callie, Greyson and soon-to-be granddaughter, Athena; nieces and nephew, Mathew, Shabrea, and Alyssa; father, John and wife Mildred of Alabama; mother, Faye; brothers, Ron and wife Debbie, and Donnie and wife Diane, both of Alabama; sisters, Djuna and husband Frank, Lisa and husband Dru of Alabama, Treva and husband Leslie, both of Alabama; sister-in-law, Jackie Orange; uncle, Larry and Darrell and wife Wanda; and best friend, Bobby Key. A memorial service celebrating John's life will be held at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home on Friday, August 22, at 6:00 PM.
