WILLIAMSBURG - Mary Lassiter White was born in Williamsburg, Virginia on August 22, 1930. She was the daughter of the late William R. and Yearda Lee Smith. She was employed as a Psychiatric Aide for Eastern State Hospital for over 20 years. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church; joining at a very early age. There, she was a member of the Senior Usher Board and served on the kitchen committee. She also was a member of the Household of Ruth. Mary enjoyed her family and friends, often having cookouts, holiday dinners and regular gatherings. She loved all and her smile was always inspiring to all who knew and loved her. To "Peach", as she was affectionately called, no one was a stranger. She touched the hearts of her family, friends, and community. Mary was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred White, and a granddaughter, Rhonda Lassiter. Mary is survived by her children, with whom she parented with the late Carl L. Lassiter, Sr.: Mary Lassiter, Curtis L. Lassiter, Sr. (Cynthia), Ronald L. Lassiter, Sr. (Francine), all of Williamsburg, VA, William V. Lassiter (Gwendolyn), of Newport News, VA and Carl L. Lassiter, Jr. (Coleen), of Racine, Wisconsin. She has six step-children, Claretha Mitchell (Bernard), Fred White, Jr. (Jackie), Lloyd White (Pam), Lawrence White (Debra), Emmanuel White (Gena), and Delcie Riley (William). Mary also has twenty grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held 12:00 noon on Friday, August 29, 2014, in St. John Baptist Church, 1397 Penniman Road. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. White may be viewed only in the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and the family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
