Mattie Lightfoot Obituary

TOANO - Mattie Golden Lightfoot answered the Master's call and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008.
Her life began on May 4, 1930, the daughter of the late James Roy and Mattie Graves Lee, of Toano, Va. At an early age, she accepted Christ into her life and was a devoted and active member of Chickahominy Baptist Church. She faithfully served her church, until she was called home to be with our Lord and Savior. "Goldie", as she was so fondly called by her family and friends, attended Chickahominy School, in Toano. On May 7, 1949, she was united in Holy Matrimony, to the late Clarence Lightfoot. Unto this union, they were blessed with four loving children. During her early years, she was employed by the College of William & Mary, and later in life, she was employed for many years, at the Pines Convalescent Center, now known as Ruxton Health Care of Williamsburg. Mattie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was also preceded in death by a son, James Lightfoot Sr.; her brothers, James Oliver, Richard and Williams McKinley Lee; her sister-in-law, Bernice Lee; and a daughter-in-law, Regina Lightfoot.
She leaves to cherish and treasure her blessed memories her daughters, Mattline Taylor and Brenda Lightfoot; her son, Thaddeus Lightfoot (Tracey); her sister, Elnora Brown; her brothers, John Lee Sr. (Levonia) and Clarence Lee; her sister-in-law, Hester Lee; her five grandchildren; her five great-grandchildren; her three step-grandchildren; her three step-great-grandchildren; her special family friend, Elnita Lightfoot; her devoted friends, she thought of as her sisters, Delores Washington and Betty Jean Braxton; her nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A funeral service, celebrating the life she lived, will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, in Chickahominy Baptist Church, with the Rev. Corwin R. Hammond officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble by noon Friday at 3083 Chickahominy Road. All are invited to view Mrs. Lightfoot only in the church from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service Friday. Professional service entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, Williamsburg, Va. 757-229-3011. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
