HAMPTON - Dorothy Banks Foster, 88, surrounded by her loving family answered her Master's call at her home early Thursday, July 8, 2010.

She was the third of 13 children born to the late Ben and Essie Banks on Sept. 27, 1921, in Poquoson, Va. She was educated in the Poquoson Public School System and moved to Hampton after she married Leroy Foster Sr. Out of this union, 11 children were born.
Dorothy joined Lincoln Park Baptist Church and was an active member for many years on the Gleaner's Board and the Senior Usher Board. In her senior years, she transferred her membership to Antioch Baptist Church and remained a member until her death.
Dorothy worked in the 'Foster Grandparent' program at Jane H. Bryan Elementary School and the Lab School at Hampton University for many years until the program ended. She was loved by all of the children and enjoyed her work.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Sr.; and four children, Thelma Robinson, Gladys Washington, Clifton and Margaret Foster.
She leaves to cherish the memories of her life her children, Leroy Foster Jr.(Dorothy), Wayne Foster (Geraldine), Faye Mason, Dorothy Burwell (James), Rose Benton, Renelda George and Deborah Sutton (Charles); siblings, Lucille Ross (Ulysses), Rose Lucas, Ben Banks (Jennilee), Thelma Lovette, Arthur Banks (Laura), Shirley Byrd and Stanley Banks (Claudett); 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held noon Monday, July 12, 2010, at Antioch Baptist Church, 1563 Old Buckroe Road, Hampton, Va.
