POQUOSON - The soul of James William Huggins took it's final flight Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Va.

Jim was a native of Louisville, Kentucky and was born Dec. 25 , 1940, but his travel with the Air Force made him a citizen of the world. Flying was his dream from an early age and excel he did. Jim retired after 24 years of service as a Lt. Colonel taking with him numerous awards for service well done.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry Huggins and Rena Buckner Huggins; brothers, Lamont and Ranson (Randy) Huggins; and stepgrandson, Daniel Amaral. Lt. Col. Huggins is survived by his wife of 42 1/2 years, Betty Huggins of Poquoson, Va.; daughters, Angela Huggins Major (Ricardo) of Hampton, Va., and Andrea Huggins Fletcher (James) of Tulsa, Okla.; sisters, Janet Huggins of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Barbara H. Curry of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren, Danielle Romero, Nick, Ashley and Anthony Amaral, and Julian and Donovan Major; great-granddaughter, Braydon Davis; nephew and like a son, Col. Kevin Huggins (U.S. Army) and family of West Point, N.Y.; nieces, Rhonda Fields, Kimberly Moore, Lynn Young and family of Louisville, Ky.; lifelong friend, Charles Harrison (Speedy) of Louisville, Ky.; sister-in-law, Barbara Williams Huggins of Austin, Texas; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Cary's Baptist Church, Yorktown, Va., with visitation prior, beginning at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment to follow in Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens.
