CHINO, CALIF. - Lester L. Smith 90 entered into eternal rest with family and friends by his side at Chino Valley Medical Center in Chino, Calif., Jan. 2, 2011.
Lester, a WWII Army Veteran was born in Cozad Nebraska in 1920. He was a longtime resident of Southern California. After retiring from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Mnfg., he moved to Goldsboro, N.C., where he resided for 15 years with his loving wife Mae. After Mae's passing he moved to Virginia to be close to his son and family.
Lester is survived by his sister, Nell Zambon of Vale Oregon; sisters-in-law, Katie Smith of Ceres, Calif., and Margie Smith of Dallas, Ore.; and his children, Kevin Smith and wife, Cheryl, Ontario, Calif., Kim "BT" Smith and wife, Kathy of Yorktown, Va., and daughter, Kristine Valencia of Chino, Calif.; his 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other beloved family members and friends stretching from coast to coast.
Lester was an active member of the Poquoson Lions Club and Senior Bowling group at York Lanes, as well as a past member of the Sunrise Kiwanis, past President of AARP Wayne County Region, and Boy Scouts of America council member in Goldsboro, N.C.
A memorial service was held Jan. 4, 2011, at Mosaic Inland Church in Chino, Calif. Ron Drvol, Mosaic Minister of the Inland Church minister, provided the opening and closing prayer while the eulogy was provided by the Smith family's dear friend Pastor Mike Olson of 1st Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of South Gate, Calif.
