SMITHFIELD - Bessie Rebecca Sadler Morris, 89, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2011, at Sentara Obici Hospital with her family by her side. Bessie was born in Surry County, Va., June 14, 1921, the daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Esther Dalton Sadler. She had resided in Isle of Wight County most of her adult life.

Passionate about needle craft, Bessie loved to crochet afghans, cross-stitch, and knitted herself a sweater. She also enjoyed ceramics and making many different types of Christmas decorations. She had worked as a waitress and hostess at Bennett's Creek Restaurant and the Circle Restaurant in Portsmouth. She was a member of Bacon's Castle Baptist Church.
Bessie was the devoted wife of the late Eddie "Junnie" Turner Morris Jr., and was also preceded in death by brothers, Harvey "Tommy" Thomas Sadler and James "Billy" Archer Sadler and William Holt Sadler.
A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Gerry M. Jones; and her husband, Cary; and her son, Bob Morris, all of Smithfield; her granddaughter, Marie Jones; and great-grandson, Raymon Jordan.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, in Oak Grave Methodist Church Cemetery, Surry, with the Rev. Ray Rowland officiating.
