NEWPORT NEWS - Donald Lee Loving, 92, passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2011.|
He was a lifelong resident of Virginia and a Newport News resident for 69 years. Donald attended Randolph Macon College and the University of Colorado. In 1942, he started to work at NACA/NASA, as an Aeronautical Engineer, from which he retired after 38 years. Upon his retirement he became a Docent volunteer at The Mariner's Museum. Donald was a member of the Engineer's Club and a member of First United Methodist Church in Newport News.
Donald was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. E.B. Loving; mother, Esther Vivian Strader; brother, Capt. Eugene Loving; and sisters, Ruth Loving Weisiger and Mary Anne Loving Arbo.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Gerwin Loving; daughter, Mary Loving McManus and her husband, Dr. John McManus; sons, Donald Lee Loving Jr. and his wife, Ellen, and Dr. Preston Bernard Loving and his wife, Scotty; four granddaughters, Caroline, Amy, Raquel and Peyton Loving; as well as many other loving relatives and dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today, Feb. 13, 2001, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Newport News, with the Rev. John T. LeGault, Jr. officiating. The burial will take place at noon Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond, Va.
