NEWPORT NEWS - On Tuesday, March 8, 2011, God looked down from Heaven and saw Elnora's tired face and called her home to take her eternal rest.
The Guest Book is expired.
Ms. Bell, 81, was born Nov 11, 1929, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., to the late Viola Bell. She moved to Newport News in 1951 and started her family. She worked hard her entire life being employed as a pharmacy clerk for many years and later as a private housekeeper. Elnora accepted Christ at an early age and was a loyal member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Usher Board until her health prevented her from doing so. She attributed her longevity and generally good health to her belief in God, her prayers, and the prayers of her friends and family. The joy of her day was spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren.
Ms. Bell is survived by three daughters, Ella Bell, Barbara Hawk and Patricia Bell of Newport News; six sons, Clinton [Brenda] of Norfolk, Va., William of East Hampton, N.J., Willie, Nathaniel, Raymond (Lavender), of Newport News, Va., and Charles (LeKendra) of Hampton, Va.; 25 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Doris Hayes of Newport News, Va.; three nieces; two nephews; one aunt, Pearl Browning of Newport News, Va.; and a host of cousins and friends. The family wishes to thank Riverside Hospice for the excellent care and support they provided.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011, at Antioch Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Monday.
O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the Bell family. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
