CARY, N.C. - Barbara Lande Swain, 73, died Monday, March 21, in Cary, N.C. She was born in Arlington, Va., to Darlene and Lester Lande.
The Guest Book is expired.
She graduated from William and Mary in 1960, majoring in Psychology. After marrying Don Swain, she moved to Newport News, Va., and taught middle school until she started her family. Once the children were in school she managed her own store, Kendall's Hallmark.
Barbara was a loving mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She was an avid gardener, Master bridge player, and a Charter member of the renowned Sea Turkeys at WYCC. Barbara will be remembered for her quick wit and whimsical ways. One of her last wishes was to let everyone know she was a size 6 when she passed away. Barbara loved music, dancing, and a good time. Her favorite song was 'I can see clearly now' which seems to be very appropriate after her long bout with cancer.
She is survived by her daughters, Leslie Vaughan (Rob), Kendall Ogren (Tim), four grandchildren, Libby, Virginia, Max and Sam, all from North Carolina; sister, Mickey Blandford (Cameron) of Lancaster, Va.; and many nephews and nieces.
In celebration of Barbara's life, her family will be receiving guests at Warwick Yacht and Country Club from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 26.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of Wake County at https://give.hospiceofwake.org/donate. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
