NEWPORT NEWS - "For everything there is a season…" (Ecc.3:1). On Tuesday, April 19, 2011, Fred E. Armstrong Sr., 89, answered his call to be with his heavenly father.
Born and raised in Wilson, N.C., he was the eldest son of Henry and Minnie Barnes Armstrong.
He was a barber by trade (Collegiate Barber Shop).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Coretha B. Armstrong; and siblings, Mary, Rosella, Daniel, David and Clarence.
He is survived by his loving children, Fred Jr. (Delilah), Frances and Brenda of Newport News, Va., Nelson of West Lebanon, N.H., and Mark of Hampton, Va.; grandchildren, Sacil, Philip (Frances), Tenia and Annese; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Isaiah, Makayla and Justice; siblings, Nathan (Fannie) of Hampton, Va., Henry and Louise of Elm City, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Monday, April 25, 2011, at Second Baptist Church East End, Newport News. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Monday.
