Missouri A. BRANCH Obituary
NEWPORT NEWS - Missouri A. Branch, 88, wife of the late G. Leroy Branch, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Missouri was the third of five children born, May 31, 1923, to the late John and Minerva Bishop of Warfield, Va. (Brunswick County). She was educated in the Warfield Public Schools and St. Paul High School in Lawrenceville, Va. Missouri was a member of Miracle Temple (formally Second Baptist Church) for over 40 years and served in many ministries to include, Trustee, Sr. Gleaner, Missionary and Sunday school teacher until her health began to fail.
Her love of children led her to work as a cafeteria monitor, for 27 years, at Sedgefield Elementary School in Newport News and as a foster grandparent for two years. Missouri was a people person and always had a smile and word of encouragement for anyone she came in contact with. Her love and light will truly be missed by all her knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Catherine D. Branch of Newport News; her sister, Susie Squires of Hampton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, to include a special cousin, Mary Bush of Newport News.
Services for Mrs. Branch will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at Miracle Temple Baptist Church, 617 32nd St., Newport News, Va., the Rev. Anthony Cooper, pastor. The Rev. Floyd M. Blackwell, pastor emeritus, will be officiating. Interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Viewing for Mrs. Branch will be held from noon to 6 p.m. today, Aug. 10, 2011, at C. C. Carter Funeral Home, 3314 Roanoke Ave. Newport News, (formerly known as Gilmore's Funeral Home), and Mrs. Branch will be placed in church two hours prior to the service on Thursday.
