GREENVILLE, MISS. - Donnie Hunt, 56, of Greenville, Miss., went to be with the Lord Nov. 10, 2011, at Madigan Army Hospital at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), Wash.
He was born April 4, 1955, in Hollyridge, Miss., the son of late Lizzie Mae Hunt. He was one of 10 children. On May 1, 1999, he married the former Davina L. Davis, who survives.
He was completing his final course toward a bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management from Columbia Southern University. He served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman for 30 years. He retired in 2004 as the Command Sergeant Major of 2d Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment at Fort Jackson, S.C. He remained connected to the military as a full-time father, military spouse, and United Services Organization (USO) volunteer. Donnie was a member of Life Center South in Lakewood, Wash., where his servant's heart shined as an active community volunteer.
He is survived by his wife, Davina L. Hunt of JBLM, Wash.; sons, Donnie Horne of Wichita Falls, Texas; son, Sven (Jennifer) Hunt of Wentzville, Mo.; daughter, Shelia (Humberto) McLaren of Colorado Springs, Col.; son, Devin Hunt of JBLM, Wash.; daughter, Dasha Hunt of JBLM, Wash.; brother, Adell (Betty) Hunt of Hebron, Md.; brother, Jackie Lee (Arlisa) Hunt of Greenville, Miss.; sister, Theresa (Joe) Morris of Greenville, Miss.; sisters, Maketter Williams and Hannah Hunt of Rockford, Ill.; and Bobbie Onyango of Minneapolis, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lizzie Mae Hunt; his brothers, John Albert Jones and Alfred Hunt; his sister, Joyce Jones Knox; and his son, Mitchie Mitchell.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 19, 2011, at Nickelson-Cummings Funeral Home in Hampton, Va. Burial will take place at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton, Va. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at
