NEWPORT NEWS - Zachary D. Cruff, 24, of Newport News, died on July 21 of head injuries sustained in a fall a week earlier.
A resident of Newport News, he was born at Portsmouth Naval Hospital and raised in both Virginia and Rhode Island. Zach graduated from East Greenwich High School (R.I.), attended James Madison University, and was a valued employee at Cycle City Corp for the past five years.
A lifelong hockey player, Zach played in recreational leagues at the Iceplex and was a dedicated and well-liked team player. He also played on the Tradewinds billiards team and enjoyed riding, racing and re-building dirt bikes. Zach never met a stranger. He loved deeply and was well loved. As a lasting act of kindness his organs were donated to those in need.
He is survived by his parents, Dennis Cruff MD and Lisa Allam-Cruff, of Poquoson; two sisters, Jenna Cruff, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Macallan (Callie) Cruff, at home; paternal grandparents, Ronald and Jane Cruff, of Narragansett, R.I.; and maternal grandmother, Carole Allam, of Woonsocket, R.I. He is predeceased by Antonio Allam.
A celebration of his life will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the fellowship hall at Yorkminster Presbyterian Church, Rt. 17, Yorktown.

A quote from his Facebook page: "Work hard, play harder, live on the edge, take risks and never ever regret anything." Ride on, my son. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
