POQUOSON - Timmy Takeshi Kariya, 49, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.
Tim retired from NASA as a test engineer, working in the field of experimental aerodynamics. He worked as the lead tunnel engineer for the 16-foot Transonic Tunnel for a large number of research studies covering a large variety of aircraft and technologies. Tim published papers with regard to water and wind tunnels that were used to advance the field of aerodynamics.
He is survived by his wife, Cindi Lach; two children, Megan and Emma Kariya, of Poquoson; and sister, Naomi Pooley of Oak Park, Ill.
Visitation will be held at noon, Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Liberty Baptist Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joe Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to his children's education college fund by contacting Financial Security Management at 757-873-4947.
