NEWPORT NEWS - Steven L. Cheeseman was called to eternal rest on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, in Bayside of Poquoson Convalescent Center, with his family by his side. He was born on April 14, 1946, the son of the late Florence and Alfonza Cheeseman.

'Mida" as he was so affectionately called, grew up in the Colony and he attended Carver Elementary and High School. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and mechanic.
He also was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Cheeseman, three sisters, a brother, a niece and two nephews.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his daughters, Keyona Cheeseman and Kimberly McCray; his sons, Pete Cheeseman (Nirobi) and Steven Cheeseman; his sisters, Alta Grimes (Reggie), Florence Allen and Gloria Brown, all of Newport News; and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A funeral service, celebrating the life he lived, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, in Colossian Baptist Church, with the Rev. Peter A. Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 722 Old Fort Eustis Blvd. by 10:15 a.m. on Saturday. Mr. Cheeseman may be viewed only in the church on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. until the hour of his service.
