NEWPORT NEWS - David P. Nichting, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (ret.), 50, of Newport News, passed away on Nov. 5, 2012.|
He was a devoted husband to Lisa for 21 years and loving father to Claire and Jack (LUMUWAKU).
His mother, Marlene Wilhelm Nichting, preceded David in death.
He is survived by his father, David Nichting and his wife, Sharon of Willoughby Hills, Ohio; sisters, Denise Sander of San Diego, Calif., and Danielle Berlan of Bay Village, Ohio.
Dave was born in Euclid, Ohio, on July 6, 1962. He graduated from Euclid High School, Euclid, Ohio in 1980 and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1984. He went on to receive a master's degree from the Naval Post Graduate School in 1995. He served in various stateside and overseas assignments, as well as multiple deployments to Southwest Asia and Bosnia Herzegovina. Dave proudly served his country in the United States Army, for 28 years, and retired on June 1, 2012.
The funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at St. Vincent De Paul Parish, 230 33rd Street, Newport News, VA 23607, and a celebration of life will take place directly following Mass at The Knights of Columbus Council #5480, 12742 Nettles Drive, Newport News, VA 23606. Burial is being planned at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
