NEWPORT NEWS - William M. "Bill" Dill, 81, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013, in Newport News. A native of Yeagertown, Pennsylvania, he had been a resident of Newport News 42 years. Having been awarded the Bronze Star in the Korean War and serving two tours in Vietnam, he retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of honorable service. He was a member of the Korean War Veteran's Association, Chapter 191, and a member of Warwick Memorial Methodist Church. Mr. Dill is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Phyllis (Horton) Dill; two sons, William M. Dill Jr. (Margie) and Steven Michael Dill (Julie); three daughters, Terry L. Etheridge, Brenda L. Jackson and Michelle L. Lipscomb (Michael); his brother, Kenneth Dill (Dorothy); a sister, Winifred "Winnie" McCardle; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the Warwick Memorial Methodist Church Building Fund. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
