HAMPTON - Richard W. Ruehe, 86, died Thursday, February 7, 2013. Born in Urbana, IL, he had been a Hampton resident since 1963. Mr. Ruehe received his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, and master's degrees from the College of William and Mary and the George Washington University. Having served in the Korean War, he continued to serve in the US Army for 20 years until retiring as a Major at Fort Monroe. Mr. Ruehe then worked as a guidance counselor for the Hampton City Schools at Syms Junior High and Bethel High School until retiring in 1994. He was a member of Lifelong Learning at CNU, the Fort Monroe Historical Society and the Hampton Clean City Commission. Mr. Ruehe is survived by his wife, Florence Moss Ruehe; daughters, Ann Adams and Cathy Ruehe; sons, Admiral retired Frederic Ruehe and LTC retired John Ruehe; eight grandchildren and three great granddaughters. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 AM, Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church by the Rev. Rhonda Wheeler. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to
