James "Burleigh" Harwood III

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS - Mr. J. "Burleigh" Harwood III, age 83, of Ocean Springs, MS died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at his home. He was a longtime resident of the coast since 1970. He was employed with Ingalls Shipbuilding for 23 years and with the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock for 23 years. Mr. Harwood was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ocean Springs, MS and Newport News, VA, was an avid tennis player and the past manager of Gulf Hills Racquet Club. He was also a member of Treasure Oaks Country Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lillian Harwood, parents, J.B. Harwood Jr and Ida Harwood, a sister Doll Carter and a brother, Donald Lee Harwood. Survivors include two sons, Ray Harwood of Arizona City, Arizona and Bob Harwood of Ocean Springs, MS, a sister, Henny Price, three brothers, George Harwood, Bruce Harwood and David Harwood, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. On Saturday, March 30, 2013, there will be a 1 pm Graveside Service in Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery in Newport News, VA.
