Everette N. Pickett Obituary
icon WILIAMSBURG - E. Neil Pickett of Williamsburg, after a grueling and courageous fight with cancer, quietly passed into eternal rest with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Surrounded by loving family and an attentive nursing staff from Williamsburg Sentara Hospital he completed his lifelong pursuit of diligently glorifying our Lord through his actions, words and thoughts. Born June 2, 1940 in Maryland to Pauline and W. W. Pickett, Neil was the son of a Baptist Minister and an elementary school teacher. He, his sister Carloyn and parents lived on the Eastern Shore and then came to Hampton, Virginia where Neil spent most of his childhood. A graduate of Hampton High and later of Sonoma State College, California, Neil displayed a work ethic that was his signature in life at whatever task he undertook. He built many custom homes on the Peninsula over a 30 year career and had a strong influence on the lives of many, now successful individuals. Neil enjoyed playing tennis, traveling and attending many sporting events. Most of all, he enjoyed life with his loving wife Brenda who dutifully cared for him throughout his lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by his father, W. W. Pickett, and is survived by his mother, Pauline C. Pickett; wife, Brenda F. Pickett; sister, Carolyn Marsh, and husband, Randy Marsh; son, Michael and wife, Amy; and son, Christopher. Also left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his grandchildren, Caleb, Joshua, Ethan, Alana and Edmund, whom he deeply loved and enjoyed watching them grow. In addition to these are Neil's step-children who love him dearly John Franklin, Wanda and Lewis Pearce, Randy Franklin, Joe Franklin and Lisa and Pat O'Caroll all of whom Neil was honored to be able to mentor and offer support throughout their lives; also, seven step-grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The family will receive guests at Peninsula Funeral Home on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 6-7:30 pm and there will be celebration service conducted by Rev Joe Hunt on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2 pm at Peninsula Funeral Home. There will also be a short graveside burial service held at Parklawn-Wood Cemetery following the service on Tuesday. The Pickett Family requests that anyone desiring to memorialize Neil should send donations to the Foundation.
