NEWPORT NEWS - Andrew Johnson Davenport passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013. A native of Washington, N.C., he was a long time resident of Newport News. Mr. Davenport retired after 50 years of service as a foreman in the electrical department of the Newport News Shipbuilding and was also a member of the United States Navy serving in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Lula Beddard Davenport and son, George H. Davenport. Survivors include his sons, John W. Davenport and wife, Cathy M. and Walter A. Davenport and wife, Jackie; grandchildren, Justin Davenport, Amy Casey and husband Sean, Branden Davenport, and Bradley Davenport; and his one great-grandson, Thomas Casey. The family will receive friends Monday, April 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Peninsula Memorial Park.
