YORK TOWN - Floyd Holloway, Jr., Commander, 84, of Venice, FL, died on Jun. 24, 2013. Services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church at a later date in Yorktown, VA. Born in Yorktown, VA, son of Floyd and Jennie Holloway. Graduate of St. Christopher's in Richmond, VA. Graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Floyd was a formidable collegiate athlete competing in football, wrestling and lacrosse. Upon graduation he entered the submarine service and commanded a number of boats. He retired as a Commander in 1973 from his final duty station in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Floyd worked in the maritime industry in Tidewater, VA after his Naval career. An avid tennis player, he played frequently with friends in Venice until months before his passing. Floyd gave generously to charities including those overseeing the poor. He is survived by his two sons, Charles and Franklin and his granddaughter Emma. He is predeceased by his second wife Helen Holloway.
