NEWPORT NEWS - Ernesto Domingo Felipe, 80, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013. Born in Laog, Philippines September 17, 1932, Ernesto was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring in 1975. He also retired from Riverside Hospital's Food Production Center in 1997 after 18 years. Ernesto was an avid gardener, successfully maintaining a bountiful garden of various vegetables at his Newport News home for the past 42 years, Preceded in death by his father, Juan Felipe, and his mother, Modesta Domingo, he is survived by his wife of 48+ years, Angeles Cortuna Felipe; six children, Daniel (Elizabeth), Edgar, Francis, Estela, Alfred and Christian (Stacey) ; brothers, Silverio (Lori) and Manuel (Charito); sister, Juanita; three grandchildren, Susana Charnecki, Kristina Charnecki and Kekoa Felipe; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel, Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm. A funeral mass will be held 10 am at St. Jerome Catholic Church Friday, July 26, 2013, by Father Joseph Majewski, followed by burial in Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens.
