HAMPTON - Mary Jane Gatling, a spirit filled, born again Christian, was called home to eternal rest on Sunday, October 6, 2013. She was born on December 7, 1938 in Newport News, VA to the late Javie and Mary McIntyre. She served for 20 years as the First Lady of Little Zion Baptist Church, Williamsburg, VA. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Walter McIntyre. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 57 years, Pastor Linwood T. Gatling; five children, Evelyn Barnes (Daryl), Linda Hunter (Michael), Linwood Gatling, Jr. (Rhonda), David Gatling (Kasey), and Chester Gatling, (Tami); 9 grandchildren, 9 sisters and brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones. A homegoing service will be held 12 noon, Friday, October 11, 2013 at Providence Baptist Church, 1331- 30th Street, Newport News, VA. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held Thursday from 1-7 pm at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Friday. O.H. Smith & Son is honored to serve the family.
