Marian Elizabeth Monday Obituary
HAMPTON - Marian Elizabeth Monday, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2013 following a long illness, with her family by her side. Marian was born in Gadsden, AL, raised in Selma, NC and moved to Hampton, VA in 1958, where she has resided for 55 years. She was a faithful member of West Hampton Baptist Church where she enjoyed serving in the Senior Choir and other ministries. She was also a member of the Northampton Women's Club and Moose International. She was a woman of many talents. Her hobbies were sewing, knitting, oil painting, gardening and all types of crafts. She also loved sharing her talents and creations with her family and friends. She worked for Life and Casualty and American General Insurance Companies and retired in 1990. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, William M. Wright and Sadie E. Wright; brothers, William Homer Wright and James M. Wright; and sister, Golda W. Shallenberger. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Monday; son, Jan Eason and wife, Brenda of Hampton; daughter, Ava Pierce and husband, Tommy of Yorktown; grandchildren, Victoria Lackey and husband, John of Lake Mary, FL, and Elizabeth Webb and husband, Mike of Yorktown; great-grandchildren, Austin Webb, Haley Webb and Kaitlyn Lackey; and brother, Kenneth Wright and wife, Joan of Parkville, MO. She will be missed by her family, members of West Hampton Baptist Church and many other life-long friends. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm, Wednesday, October 30 at West Hampton Baptist Church, 631 Aberdeen Road, in Hampton, with a celebration of her life to begin at 2 pm. On Friday, November 1, a visitation will be held at 1 pm at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, NC, with a graveside service at Selma Memorial Gardens at 2 pm.
