She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in liberal arts majoring in art from Beloit College in Beloit, Illinois where she was elected Homecoming Queen and ultimately met her husband, Donald Piper. Don and Vonnie were married in 1955 and have enjoyed 58 wonderful years together. Vonnie was a prolific sculptor (her pieces are all coveted by family members). In addition to her art and a daily crossword puzzle, she loved to travel, enjoyed games of all sorts, including Bridge and Scrabble and had a particular weakness for chocolate. Throughout her life, Vonnie gave time to a number of charities, most recently, she served on the board of Deacon's at the church. Most of all she was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and loving grandmother. She led a life of boundless energy and enthusiasm. Vonnie is preceded in death by her parents, Sonia and Emil Demarche and grandchildren, Conor and Chase Piper. Vonnie is survived by her sisters Jeanne (Wynn) Nolin and Sonia (Brian) Ridley of Boulder; children: Todd (Mary Jo) with children Paige, Hannah, and Maya; Scott (Kaki) with children Logan and Mckenzie; Mark with children Riley, Carlin, and Trey; and Lisa (David).
