Richard Brooks Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Richard Brooks, 53, passed away on Sunday, May 11, surrounded by his loving and devoted family after his battle with cancer. Richard was born and raised in Newport News, VA. He graduated from Warwick High School and Old Dominion University. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Virginia Brooks. He is survived by his sister Bonnie James and her husband Mike; brothers Mel Brooks and his friend Norma Farr, Edwin Brooks and his wife Nancy, Donald Brooks and his wife Arlene; niece Christina Shawen and her husband Chris, their daughter Morgan; and great friends Beth Russell and Jerry Butler. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 11:00 am at Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church, 38 Hoopes Road, Newport News, VA 23602. The family has asked that everyone dress casual and wear green, to bring awareness to Bile Duct Cancer. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Fisher House of Richmond, http://www.richmondfisherhouse.org/donate.php or The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (Bile Duct Cancer Research), http://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org. Richards's family would like to say thank you to all the doctors and nurses at McGuire Medical Center in Richmond, VA. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
