Alpheus Wallace

1939 - 2017

WILLIAMSBURG - On June 8, 2017, Alpheus Wallace died peacefully at the Hospice House of Williamsburg. Alpheus, the son of the late Rosa Wallace and the late Curtis Wallace, Sr. was born on April 1, 1939, in Williamsburg, VA. In 1956, Alpheus joined the U.S. Army. He retired as a SFC in 1976 after having served 20 years in a distinguished career that included three tours in Vietnam. His bravery during the Vietnam War earned him a Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, and an Air Medal. He embodied the Army Warrior Ethos, "I will always place the mission first, I will never accept defeat, I will never quit, and I will never leave a fallen comrade." He was preceded in death by his wife, Yolanda Marie Wallace, his son, Alpheus "Buddy" Wallace, Jr., his brother, Curtis Wallace, Jr., and great-granddaughter, Liana Potter. He leaves to cherish his memory, his stepmother, Judy Wallace; his daughters, Debra Jones (Thomas) and Renee Stevens; his siblings, Jeff Wallace (Stefany) and James Wallace. He also leaves to cherish his beloved grandchildren, Ashleigh Washington, Corey Stevens and Chelsie Stevens; two great granddaughters, Leyna Potter and Eden Potter; his aunt, Geraldine Wallace; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Alpheus may be viewed on Friday, June 16th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Colossian Baptist Church in Newport News, VA. A funeral service, celebrating the life he lived, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Colossian Baptist Church, 856 Old Fort Eustis Blvd., Newport News, VA, 23608. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
