LACKEY - Rev. Warren G. Pannill Sr., 83, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Mary Immaculate Hospital after a long illness. Born to the late James Bryant Pannill and Gertrude Wade Pannill in Hurt, Va., he had 13 brothers and sisters. Rev. Pannill was a resident of Lackey, Va., for 66 years. He retired from his civil service career at the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, Va., in 1980. His tenure included work in the torpedo shop, the mechanics department and inspector of advanced missiles in Quality Control. His community service at Rising Sun Baptist Church in Lackey included sexton, choir leader, deacon, trustee, treasurer, superintendent of Sunday and Summer Bible schools and assistant pastor. He was a long time pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Barhamsville. His mission was to minister to the sick and the elderly in Lackey and surrounding communities. Rev. Pannill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Lee Pannill; brother, Edward Pannill of Hurt, Va.; two sisters, Sybil Hutcherson of Woodstown, N.J., and Florence Hamilton of Cleveland, Ohio; three daughters, Synthia Ann Gordon and her husband, Fred Gordon, of Newport News, Va., Priscilla Lee Berry and her husband, Ronald J. Berry, of Ashburn, Va., and Letitia D. Pannill of Chester, Va.; one son, Warren G. Pannill Jr. of Charlottesville, Va.; five grandsons, Edward Swinton, LaShawn Swinton, Kevin Penny, Marques Shoulars and Warren Pannill III; one granddaughter, Christina Kemp. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Joshua, Shakaya, Shana, Xavier, LaShawn Jr. and Tyshawanda. The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, at the Carter Funeral Home, 251 Richneck Road, Newport News, VA 23608. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 15, at Rising Sun Baptist Church, on the corner of Old Williamsburg Road and Church Road in Lackey, Va. The casket will be placed in the church at noon.
