Bernard Farish Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Mar. 16 to Mar. 17, 2011.
Bernard "Coulter" Farish Sr.

Bernard "Coulter" Farish Sr. went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 14, 2011, while surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 24, 1932, in Albemarle County, to the late Haras Gilmore and Tempey Roberts Farish. He was also preceded in death by his son, Bernard C. Farish Jr.

Coulter was retired from Frank Ix & Sons after many years of service. He also farmed most of his life.

He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Betty Collins Farish. He always had a special place in his heart for his siblings, Douglas "Eugene" Farish, Lillian "Sister" Woodson and Archie Farish. Coulter also cherished his wife's family, Louise Burton, Ruby Gunter, Ida and Tanner Carver, Ellen Riner and Faye Brown, and their children.

Coulter would always say that he was blessed with five wonderful children, Pamela and her husband, Ronald Sacre, Glenda and her husband, Dale Kirby, Teresa Farish and David Sacre, daughter in law, Rebecca Farish, and Sonya and her husband, Barry Weathersbee. His grandchildren, Angela Gibson, Ronald Sacre Jr., Joseph Sacre and his wife, Cassie, Jessica and her husband, Richard Jenkins, Kaitlin Sacre, Jimmy Kirby, Niki and her husband, Bobby Snow Jr., David "Bug" Sacre and his wife, Buffy, Bernard C. Farish III and Jennifer and Wayne Farish, Carrie and her husband, Sam Walker, and Jazmine Harrell. Many great--grandchildren as well as foster grandchildren also survive him.

He loved his church, Park Lane Free Will Baptist, and attended regularly for many years.

The family extends a special thanks to family, friends, church families and Hospice of the Piedmont for all their love and support during his illness.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2011, at Effort Baptist Church, 7820 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Palmyra, VA 22963, with the Reverend Don Hellms officiating. A private interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either Park Lane Free Will Baptist Church, 112 Park Lane West Charlottesville, VA 22903, or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
