Bernette Fortune Obituary
Bernette Edward Fortune, 60, of Trevilians, departed this life on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital.
He was born on May 30, 1949, in Louisa County, to the late Ivory and Lula Ragland Fortune Sr.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Grooms Merritt; four brothers, Ivory Fortune Jr., William Fortune, James Fortune and Wayne Fortune.
Bernette was a former employee for Albemarle County Public School System where he retired in June of 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Christine E. Fortune of Trevilians; three sons, Robert Lewis Grooms of Lawrence, Nathaniel M. Grooms of Gordonsville and Bernette E. Fortune Jr. of Trevilians; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred Fortune and his wife, Lucille, and Mark Fortune and his Brenda, all of Trevilians; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Mason and Elder Steve Mason, and Ms. Mary Garris, all of Trevilians; 10 sisters-in-law, and seven brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2009, at the Evergreen Bibleway Church, Route 626, Evergreen Road, Louisa, with Pastor Elder Steve Mason Eulogist. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 12 noon until 8 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2009, at the funeral home.
Satchell's Funeral Service of Orange is in charge of arrangements.
