David Wood Pendleton

David Wood Pendleton, 89, of Alexandria, Virginia, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at his home In Charlottesville, Virginia.

He was born on August 3, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late David E. Pendleton and Anne Wood Pendleton. He was also predeceased by his brother, Edmund E. Pendleton.

He is survived by his daughter, Suzi J. Pendleton and her husband, Steven M. Langley, of Charlottesville, Virginia; two sons, Alan D. Pendleton and his wife, Susan, of Pleasanton, California, and Neal S. Pendleton and his wife, Walai, of Sunnyvale, California; and four grandchildren, William Langley, Ian Pendleton, Evan Pendleton, and Nelson Pendleton. He also leaves behind many friends in the Northern Virginia/D.C. area, including those who shared his passions for sailing, tennis, and the promotion of monorail as a means of mass transit.

He received his B.S. Degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1948, and then worked for various firms including Sperry Gryroscope, Corvey Engineering Company and American Machine and Foundry before ending his career at Bechtel Corp. after working 10 years as a Senior Field Engineer,

He was actively Involved in his community and served as President of Mount Vernon Farms Civic Association and Secretary-Treasurer of Mount Vernon Council of Citizens Association.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Patricia Joan Weis for her caring and compassionate caregiving over the last one and a half years. Also, many thanks to the staff at JABA Adult Day Healthcare Center, Interim Healthcare, Legacy Hospice and Dr. Jonathan Evans for making it possible for our Dad to live a comfortable life at home.

The family will hold a private memorial service.

Friends are invited to an Open House from 12 until 3 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the home of his daughter, Suzi Pendleton.
