Donna Lavin Obituary

Published by Daily Progress on Jan. 18, 2011.

Donna Lavin

Donna Lavin, 55, daughter of Julius Chiapperini and Marie Cardone of Flushing, New York, died at her home on Thursday, January 13, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years and Vietnam veteran, Thomas Patrick Lavin, also of Flushing, New York.

A resident of Charlottesville for 21 years, Donna was most loved by those around her for her indomitable spirit and her feisty sense of humor.

Despite her multiple illnesses, Donna kept an upbeat outlook and loved nothing more than spending time with her friends and family.

She leaves behind a daughter, Donna Cavello; a son-in-law, Brian Cavello; her 12 year old granddaughter, and the angel of her life, Brianna Rose Cavello and her partner of eight years, David Matheny.

My mother brought love and laughter to our lives and will live in our hearts forever.

Funeral arrangements by Hill and Wood Funeral Home.

Gifts to the family accepted and appreciated.

"No matter how dark the path you walk seems, love will always bring you home."

Donna, my sincere condolences. My mind is reeling with all the memories of Donna & the good times we had on TACO HILL. Keep a candle burning for her. She was a wonderful person who will be missed.

My favorite people in the world are New York Italians, so I was thrilled to know Donna and find we had so much in common as children. The circumstances of our friendship were odd--to say the least--but we had a mutual admiration of spirit. I loved her feisty humor and her ability to see what was important in any situation. I hope she is pain-free and laughing, and full of joy right now. I will miss the hours we spent laughing on the phone. I loved her for loving my child. Brianna, you were her heart: never forget that. She didn't want to go, but she will always be with you.
