Dorothy Pedrick Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Jun. 4 to Jun. 6, 2010.

Dorothy G. Pedrick, 75, a resident of Our Lady of Peace in Albemarle County, died on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at The Laurels.

She has gone to join her husband, William H. Pedrick, whom she married 54 years ago this month.

She was born on October 19, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late John Goll and G. Eleanor Hellenschmidt Goll.

The oldest of three children, she was sister to Paul and Richard Goll.

Dorothy lived in Long Island, New York, Easton, Pennsylvania, Bound Brook, New Jersey, Roanoke, Virginia, and Dalton, Georgia, before moving to Lake Monticello. While here, she attended First United Methodist Church with her son and his family until she moved to Our Lady of Peace.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother that worked tirelessly to create a wonderful home for her husband and children. Giving gifts to others was one of her greatest joys in life that she so missed as she became older and less able to get around. During her life she enjoyed recreational activities including collecting antiques, drawing and painting, swimming, tennis, traveling, going to the beach and dining out. Her primary vocation was caring for her family but she also co-owned an antique shop with her mother and was heavily involved in volunteer efforts in Roanoke including publicity chair of the Athenian Society, Summer Swim scheduling coordinator for the Roanoke Aquatic Association, docent and publicity chair of the Fine Arts Center.

In New Jersey, was a board member of the Bound Brook Presbyterian church nursery school and Treasurer of the Jr. Women's club. She was a member of the Ladies Living Life group at First United Methodist Church here in Charlottesville.

Survivors include a son, David Pedrick and his wife, ElizaBeth McCay, of Fluvanna; a daughter, Beth Zenker and her husband, Mike, of Woodbridge; three grandchildren, Brynn Pedrick, Irina McCay-Pedrick and Slava McCay-Pedrick; and a brother, Richard Goll of Hampton.

A funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Al Horton officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior also at the church. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Nature Conservancy of Virginia or the Alzheimer's Association of Central and Western Virginia.

David and Beth,

Aunt Dot was an inspiration and I'll treasure her memory forever. As kids visiting on Long Island and Bound Brook and later in Roanoke, I remember so many great times with her and Uncle Bill. You both are great swimmers and she was always an active volunteer at your meets. I also remember the active bird watching your family enjoyed while we were together on the NC shore during college years. Your family unit has great values and I'm proud to be one of your cousins.

Let us know if there is anything we can do. In times like these, I find comfort in remembering the lasting impression your Mom had on us and how many lives she touched. She is resting comfortably with Uncle Bill and "living large" upstairs. God bless you both and your families. Ken will be driving over from Glen Allen and see you live on Tuesday. Kerry and Kaitlin also send their love.

With heartfelt sympathy, condolences and prayers across the miles.
