Edith Marsh Herring

Edith Marsh Herring, 90, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, December 20, 2009, at her home with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Willie B. Herring.

Mrs. Herring was born on Wednesday, August 6, 1919, in Albemarle County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Thomas Smith Marsh and Annie Hunt Marsh. She was retired from Blue Ridge Hospital where she was supervisor of the dietary department for 20 years. She was a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas J. Herring of Ruckersville, Virginia, Ollie B. Herring and his wife, Barbara, of Scottsville, Virginia, and Ronnie Lee Herring and his wife, June, of Charlottesville, Virginia; one daughter, Phyllis Caldwell of Lynchburg, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, a host of great and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Hunt of Charlottesville, Virginia, Marjorie Ladd and her husband, George, of Somerset, Virginia, and Mildred Ladd of Ruckersville, Virginia; a special grandson, Archer D. Caldwell Jr.; and three very special children in her life, Jada N. Le, Joshua R. Gunter, and Daniel J. Shaver.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Joyce M. Hall and Charlotte Ann Herring; a son-in-law, Archer D. Caldwell Sr.; four brothers, and three sisters.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Phyllis Caldwell.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg with the Reverend Becky Cloud officiating. Interment will be 1:30 p.m. at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville.
