Ernest R. Taylor Sr.

Ernest R. Taylor Sr. of Alexandria, Virginia, died on Monday, April 26, 2010, at his Alexandria home, in which he had resided for 63 years.

He was born on February 24, 1921, in Charlottesville, Virginia, the son of the late Blanche Bruffey Taylor and Warner Lee Taylor.

Ernest served in the United States Coast Guard in World War II and worked at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing for 37 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Violet Avy Cutright Taylor; four siblings, Warner Taylor Jr., Marion Watson, Dorothy Ward and James Taylor; and a granddaughter, Melissa D'Elosua.

Ernest is survived by his five children, Ernest Taylor Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia, Ronald Taylor of Stuart, Florida, Gerald Taylor of Bristol, Tennessee, Kathy Taylor D'Elosua of Springfield, Virginia, and Rhonda Taylor of Alexandria, Virginia.

He was also blessed with the love of eight grandchildren, Ernest Roy Taylor III, Kim Carlson, Jennifer Lucius, Sandy D'Elosua, Crystal Schaefer, Karen Eftekari, and Jason D'Elosua; as well as three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Demaine Funeral Home in Alexandria.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010, at the funeral home with interment at Mount Comfort Cemetery.
